There are famously four “C”s that you should consider when you set out to buy diamonds earrings. Indeed, the value of the diamond will depend on these 4C’s.

C1 – Carat. This is a term familiar to most of us, because this is how we also classify gold and silver. We also know that the more carat the better, although we may not be sure what carat means exactly, or how it is measured… Well. Carat is a measure of the ‘weight and mass’ of a diamond. The higher the carat, the more expensive the diamond, therefore the more costly too.

Carat is often used as the main factor to determine the value and popularity of diamonds. For example, the Tiffany Yellow Diamond is remembered above all as a large octahedron – weighing 287 carats (uncut), and then later it was reduced to 128 carats.

C2 – Clarity. Diamond is the hardest material source of all natural resources, and is so durable that only another diamond can scratch it! However, in the process of turning ordinary carbon into diamond, there are some defects in its crystal structure, and multiple defects can usually be found either inside, or on its surface. Internal flaws are called inclusions. Of course, diamonds without material defects will be much more expensive than ones with even a single defect. The more defects, the lower the price. Clarity.

C3 – Color. Loose Diamonds are usually clear and colorless. However, colors are more rare and, therefore, more valuable. In general, diamond earrings, for instance, are preferred darker and more intense – and coloration is more expensive than light. Furthermore, blue, pink and green are more expensive than yellow and brown.

C4 – Cut. The cut of a diamond is another critical consideration when buying diamonds. Diamonds can be cut in different ways, and the cut can influence the price. Perfectly cut diamonds are very expensive. For example, cut lily or heart-shaped diamond earrings will be much more expensive than cut circles. Princess cut diamond engagement rings are very popular these days.

However, imperfect diamond earrings can actually work to your advantage as they will have less value than perfect ones, so you can own a diamond that is more affordable, but still beautiful, and probably looks perfect to you and I. Furthermore, these imperfections act as unique fingerprints to identify your diamond. Additionally, jewellers have a way of hiding imperfections, so that inclusions are not especially visible to the untrained eye anyway.
